I'm not a big fan of remakes, especially if a film was great in the first place and doesn't need to be redone. For me a film that deserves to be remade is one that had a great idea that just went astray for one reason or another.

When I heard that the LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT was being remade, I wasn't to keen on that thought. I actually really liked this film since it was very gritty and real for a horror film. I'm not such a big fan on the slick 'torture porn' that's become pretty regular at the theaters now.

LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT was Wes Craven's first film and it shows, and I think that's what makes it so good. He hadn't learned all the rules and formulas that the studios want and demand, so you don't know what it going to happen or where the film will take you. If you truly love good horror films , then I'm sure you've already seen it, if not, check it out. You can even check out the film that inspired it THE VIRGIN SPRINGS which is a surprisingly brutal film for the time it was made.

Again, I wasn't expecting much for this remake, but after watching this trailer, I'm more hopeful that it might turn out to be something worth checking out at the theater. Rogue Pictures might have something redeeming here too. I liked THE STRANGERS although it got some oddly mixed reviews. Something about it really drew me in and Liv Tyler even made me forget she was playing the character who gets put through some real hell.

I keep hoping Wes Craven will come back and make another kick ass film that's more than just a big opening that turns into a sagging story.

See what you think and let us know if you feel like this remake could be something could. Please no more HITCHER, BLACK CHRISTMAS remakes!
